HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS

Reality Therapy is an ongoing process involving two important components: creating a trusting environment and relationship and learning the practical techniques.

In Reality Therapy, people are encouraged to take responsibility for their behaviour also in human relationships and to quit external control beliefs. Everybody can only affect his or her own behaviour.

The attempt to control other people’s behaviour or resigning oneself to the belief that one’s life is in the hands of other people destroys personal freedom and relationships.

Criticising, blaming, complaining, nagging, threatening, punishing, bribing and rewarding are tools of external control, which students of Reality Therapy try to learn to give up.

When required, the practical techniques can be taught to clients as an aid to self-development and problem solving.
